Research in HSS
Humanities Research
Caltech’s humanities scholars examine how people and societies imagine and describe their worlds. Broadly, their research interweaves two strands of inquiry: The first brings together the history of science with philosophy and intellectual history. The second joins literature and history to understand social change through analyses of production, diffusion, reception, and conservation of texts, images, and other media.
Social Sciences Research
The social sciences at Caltech have a rich history of producing transformative scholarship. HSS scholars examine how social systems—such as markets, organizations, or political environments—influence and are influenced by human behavior. These researchers apply rigorous theoretical, empirical, and experimental analyses that allow them to build a deeper understanding of humans and their interactions.
