Former Poet Laureate of Los Angeles, Robin Coste Lewis is the author most recently of To the Realization of Perfect Helplessness (Knopf, 2022), winner of the 2023 PEN/Voelcker Award for Poetry. Her debut collection, Voyage of the Sable Venus (Knopf, 2015), won of the National Book Award in Poetry. Lewis's writing has appeared in numerous journals and anthologies, including TIME magazine, The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Paris Review, Transition, and Best American Poetry. Lewis holds an MFA in poetry from New York University and a PhD from the USC Creative Writing and Literature Program. In 2019, she received an Academy of American Poetry Laureate Fellowship. As Los Angeles Poet Laureate, she focused on truth and reconciliation projects dealing with the city's history.
