The decarbonization of the global economy in response to the climate crisis and to the fourth industrial revolution which features artificial intelligence (AI) and 5G networks has triggered a race to secure uninterrupted access to critical minerals indispensable for high-technology applications. Geopolitical realignments and the growing US-China rivalry are quickly turning into a battle over leadership of the tech-imperium. Industries that require critical minerals as inputs are now caught in the middle of increasingly fraught geopolitics.
