Willkommen bei den Hartmanns // 2016 // Directed by Simon Verhoeven
A well-off Munich family offers boarding to a refugee. Diallo from Nigeria soon makes friends among the family members, but the entire family is tested when they have to face racism, bureaucracy and terror suspicions because of him.
Welcome to the Hartmanns has done what even Angela Merkel failed to do: find consensus (at least among German film fans) on the refugee crisis. In the movie, the Hartmanns' political discussions reflect what you hear everywhere in the country as a whole these days.
Pretty funny - and pretty serious – "Laughter can be liberating," says director Simon Verhoeven.
