Fitzcarraldo // 1982 // Directed by Werner Herzog
With Klaus Kinski and Claudia Cardinale. Music by Popol Vuh.
A quest plot: Fitzcarraldo is obsessed with opera and wants to build an opera in the jungle. This involves hauling a riverboat across a small mountain with help from the local Indians. A tale (based on true characters) of a man obsessed with bringing European culture to the dark tropical forests of South America. The mysterious and spectacular images will linger with you. Probably the best performance of legendary Klaus Kinski in collaboration with Werner Herzog who referred to him as my best enemy.
