Behind the Book: "The Worth of Art"
Join us on October 20, 2023 at 6:00 PM for special Behind the Book event that should be of special interest to both people who collect art for the aesthetic pleasure art brings and those concerned about their overall assets.
Caltech Professor Jean-Laurent Rosenthal (the Rea A. and Lela G. Axline Professor of Business Economics) will engage in a conversation with Caltech Graduate and author Arturo Cifuentes about his recent book The Worth of Art: Financial Tools for the Art Markets (co-authored with Ventura Charlin and to be published this fall by the Columbia Business School).
The market for art can be as eye-catching as the artworks themselves. Works by artists from da Vinci and Rembrandt to Picasso and Modigliani have sold for hundreds of millions of dollars. The world's ultrawealthy increasingly treat art as part of their portfolios. Since artworks are often valuable assets, how should financial professionals analyze them?
This book provides an expert guide to the methods, risks, and rewards of investing in art. It details how to apply the financial and statistical tools and techniques used to evaluate more traditional investments such as stocks, bonds, and real estate to art markets.
