Postdoctoral Scholar in Studying Decision Making with Human Intracranial Electrophysiology
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Scholar Research Associate in the O'Doherty lab at the California Institute of Technology with an affiliated appointment at the Rutishauser lab at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles. The successful applicant will join an on-going research project on the neural mechanisms of value-based decision-making in humans. The research project involves obtaining intracranial electrophysiological recordings in human epilepsy patients undergoing neurosurgical treatment for intractable epilepsy. The project is focused on elucidating the neuronal correlates of the construction of value and the formation of value-based decisions at the level of individual neurons in the human brain.
The successful applicant will have prior experience in either single unit electrophysiology, intracranial EEG or a related electrophysiological technique. The successful applicant will have strong programming skills and will be familiar with and competent in the use of computational modeling methods for the analysis of behavioral and neuronal data, such as reinforcement-learning, Bayesian modeling, neural network modeling, or decoding-based methods. The successful applicant will also have prior experience of cognitive or behavioral neuroscience, and an interest in decision-making and/or neuroeconomics. Proven productivity as evidenced by first-author publications is required.
The duration of the appointment will be for one year, with a possibility for renewal dependent on satisfactory progress.
Requirements: Position is contingent upon completion of the PhD. Interested candidates should send a CV, cover letter, research statement, a list of publications, and a list of three referees who can be contacted to provide a recommendation on request to Mary Martin.
Informal queries can be directed to John O'Doherty.
