Man and Machine: Reports from the Front Lines of Exploration
Jeff J. Marlow, PhD Candidate, Geobiology, Division of Geological and Planetary Sciences, Caltech,

Technological advancements over the last few decades have dramatically changed the nature of exploration, opening up vast new worlds while minimizing our physical involvement in their investigation. Marlow, a Geobiology PhD student at Caltech, will lead a journey from the deep sea, to the volcanoes of Vanuatu, and to the dusty plains of Mars in order to show how modern exploration happens. How do robots affect the science, the experience, and the soul of exploration, and what will they mean for its future?
